Field Trip
I got to accompany Aurora's class on a field trip to the library for storytime. Aurora was so excited to have me ride on the bus with her. It was so cute!

A day at the Farm
In the morning we went to see the Plano Children's Theater production of "Charlotte's Web."
Straight from there, we went to a real farm in Lucas with our ward playgroup. They raise chickens and goats.

We even got to try goat's milk. It was delicious! In fact, weeks later, I woke Allegra up from a nap and she groggily said, "I want goat's milk." It was hilarious!
I don't think we're in California anymore!

Valentine's Preview
After the fourth hug during dinner, Aurora said, "Mom, this hug is for making a good day better."
My heart melts!
more Valentine's Day to come . . .

Snowed In: For real this time . . . okay maybe not
Just when I thought we'd finally be able to get out of the house, Mark woke me up at 5:15am on Friday and dragged me out of bed to see this!
Six inches of snow! It was Mark's first day to go back to work that week and he insisted on going. Luckily he did make it to work alive (barely).
But snow doesn't stop my friend Keri. We had planned on getting together and she didn't let the white stuff stop her (thanks to 4-wheel drive). She brought her kids over and then picked up her sister and her kids. So we had a blast playing outside. I'm not sure I would have taken the girls out by myself. I am a California snow wimp and proud of it! Didn't stop the girls though!

Happy Chinese New Year!
One thing I've learned about being a mom is that holidays are even more important when you have kids. They're something fun to look forward to and break up the monotony of the everyday. Especially when you've been snowed inside all week! I'd been planning on celebrating Chinese New Year for a while but since we had nothing else to do, some might say I went overboard. The girls wore Chinese/Japanese dress-ups all day.
We read several library books. An especially good one told us about the signs for the year we were born and the characteristics of people born in that year. Some were dead on! We ate Japanese noodles and edamame for lunch.

I made my mom's famous Sweet and Sour Chicken. It was a huge hit so I may make it more often if I can figure out how to cut the calories. I'll post the recipe on the Lazerbeams Love Food blog.

We made a Chinese dragon puppet and had a parade, set to traditional Chinese music (compliments of Pandora, my new friend). We watched the Chinese news channel on TV and even though we didn't understand a bit, we were able to talk about the differences.

Overall, it was a great way to spend snowed-in day number three!

Baby, it's cold outside
It's snowing! And what does a California girl do when it snows? Stay inside, of course. But the girls wanted to make a snowman so we spent twenty minutes getting bundled up. We stepped outside and realized that it is really just ice posing as snow and went back inside two minutes later. It is now 17 degrees outside and it's not supposed to get above freezing until Friday! I may be a popsicle before then!
